Aklima's Will is a searing, compassionate journey into the lives of Bangladesh's garment workers; women who, with threadbare means and unwavering resolve, helped reshape a nation. Set against the backdrop of the booming yet brutal garment industry, this fourth novel by Sanaul Mostafa presents a deeply human portrait of Aklima, a fictional yet hauntingly real woman whose life mirrors those of countless others.
Aklima emerges from among the women trudging to work each day-undernourished, exhausted, but fiercely determined as a daughter, sister, breadwinner, and revolutionary. Her story unfolds through a richly textured narrative that bears witness to both the quiet dignity and the systemic injustices that define her world.
The novel is an indictment of an industry built on the backs of women like Aklima. Written with empathy but without sentimentality, Aklima's Will captures the resilience, dreams, and heartbreak of those too often overlooked.
