Bangladesh's media landscape remained turbulent since independence. From the very beginning, the press has struggled to enjoy genuine freedom.
Through coercive laws, restrictive regula-tions, and intimidation, successive governments have sought to curb media freedom. The journalist community itself has often been divided along political lines, creating opportunities for those in power and their supporters to harass reporters and attack newspaper offices. The rise of religious militancy has made journalism even more dangerous and vulnerable. Another very issue is media ownership pattern who are like feudal lords.
This book contains moments of intensity and urgency, but far more moments of grief. The articles span the fifteen-year rule of the Awami League under Sheikh Hasina, which ended on August 5, 2024, following a mass uprising. They also cover the eighteen-month interim admin-istration led by Professor Dr. Mohammad Yunus. This period will likely be remem-bered as one of the most perilous times for Bangladesh's media.
